The Long Goodbye!
The day finally came - John was leaving his home for two years.
We arrived a little late and Kathryn and Janette were there waiting for us.
Janette came to see her Uncle John off. Later I asked her if this made her want to go on a mission and she said "Yes it does" So I explained that when she turns 21 and if she has the desire to go and is not married yet, then she too can go on a mission. She turned to me and said, "No I think I will go when I am 19." So we had to have a little discussion. She is getting so grown up and soon she will be 19.
Kathryn and Her youngest brother John.(I had to say youngest, not little, because he isn't so little any more)
Elder Preece entering the MTC
Putting on his nametag
At least we got to come in to the MTC - They were concerned then about the H1N1 flu and were asking all those coming in if they were showing any flu like symptoms. So far as we know John is alright.
No picture taking after this.
After a orientation in a big room, all the elders got up to go and say their goodbyes, we gave John our hugs and their were tears shed he just stood there and I said "Well, are you going to go" but as we looked around nobody was leaving and he said he didn't want to be the first one. I told him to be a leader and so he bounded up the stairs and was the first one out the door. He told in his first letter home that he had reached for his phone a few times that first day.:) he was exhausted by 8:43 pm and he was excited. He was given a chinese name "Bat Jeun Low" Jeun Low mean Elder and Bat (he spelled it with a dash over the a - like a long A) meas to complete, to finish whole, total. We are so happy that John made the decision to go on a mission.
