It was a Good Day

It just so happened that the first day that we could get together to take John to the temple happened to be on his 19th Birthday. A nice way to celebrate your birthday!
It was a happy moment to see the last of my children go through the temple.

We took the party to eat later at the Outback and made John open presents.
John has a hard time giving me a serious face in a picture. Someday he will be sorry (but probably not for a long time)

Treasures???

So we've been cleaning out the garage all week and I told my Mom she needed to throw this poster away. I made it when I was about 14, when my sisters and I sang at a talent show for the ward. She has had it hanging above her dryer for about 38 years. I told her we could take a picture of it and then we could throw it away.
This was another one of those things it was hard for her to part with, but has been sitting in the garage for over 38 years. It was a handmade wall hanging she did years ago.
We made some progress and reached back into a corner that hasn't seen the light of day for two decades. It was so dusty that we decided we had better put on some kerchiefs to filter the dust.
Most of the stuff in the truck is mostly from Mom's garage (not really but a lot of it is)
So we found some cans of dehydrated food cans hidden down way back under stuff and so we thought we would open one up to see if it was still good. (We were not sure how old it is, but judging from the label, probably over 30 years)
It doesn't look too bad, so we thought we would hydrate them. We had to soak them for 5 hours or overnight in the refrigerator.
This is what they looked like. Mom tasted the cherries and said it wasn't bad. Brave woman. I was not going to put that in my mouth. I want to live. But she tried one of the other pieces of fruit. She said it tasted a little funny. We threw it all away. P.S. Mom is doing fine...

Balboa

Last week Mom wanted to go down to Balboa Park for an event, but by the time we got there and found parking it was either over, or we didn't know where it was. But we still made a day of it and enjoyed ourselves. I love the buildings there in the park, they bring back memories of my childhood. Of course we had to stop and have a little photo session. I even got a picture of mom taking a picture (that's not really hard to do) As we strolled up and down the main area, there were street performers all over, so we stopped and watched this one group as they performed. They were kind of fun to watch and I got that stupid tune stuck in my head for a couple of days. I gave them a dollar, since I did video them.
After a long day of walking around we took off to Old town for good mexican food, but ended up at this bistro, which had mexican food on the menu, but it was a little different. Check out the rice on my plate and fancy salad. It wasn't what we are usually used to, but it was really pretty good. Mom's quesadilla was really good.It was a good Day!

A Photo Shoot

Whenever we take stuff to the DI Truck, Mom loves to take pictures in the pretty flowers and rocks there on the grounds of the church. So we had fun.I am always trying to get her to smile and sometimes it makes her laugh instead. But sometimes she gets it just right. She still looks pretty good doesn't she. I only hope I can look as good as my mom at her age.She loves being around flowers.

Okay now it was my turn. Not so many of me, because I prefer to be behind the camera.
But it was fun to have my picture taken.

Spring Cleaning and Out the Door

Saturday Mom wanted to go down to Balboa Park, so I told her if she would get rid of 10 things in her closet we would go. So we tackled a closet in one of the guest rooms and we found some really old clothes and we found some really nice stuff that she had forgotten about. (This is one of old things, by the way, and we got rid of it)I guess it pays to go through your junk once in a while. It is such a good feeling to lighten our load.We were able to bag up about 4 bags of stuff. We had quite a haul to take to the DI truck after cleaning some in the garage the day before.Last time we took stuff to her truck it was spilling out onto the sidewalk, but this time it was nearly empty and we didn't have any problem unloading.
It is so nice that they have a truck right here in the church parking lot. We are so grateful for the program of Deseret Industries. They have been such a blessing in our lives and in many other lives. They provide so much for those that need jobs and when we donate to them it helps people in so many ways. What a neat program!
