Rocks, Driftwood and Sea Lions
We started up the coast from Gold's Beach. We took a scenic detour on our way to Bandan. It is here that we saw Face Rock. It is out in the water and is part of a group of rocks, that are called seastacks. There is a local legend that goes along with it. It looks like a woman looking up into the sky.
Here is another one that looks like an Elephant. There were so many sea stacks and rocks along the coast. It was beautiful.
We stopped in Bandon at this beach and it was covered with driftwood.
We saw several little shacks made with driftwood up and down the coast.
Our next stay was Yachats. We stayed in the place behind me in the photo. There were rocks on the shore, so it made a pretty interesting show when the tide came in.
This was in the morning when the tide was out...
Then later that day when we came back you can see how far up the tide came.
One of the things I really wanted to do was go see the Sea Lion Caves. It is supposed to be the largest sea cave and the Sea Lion's come there to mate and hang out.
Looking forward to seeing the Sea Lions.
This is the best picture I could get without a flash (not allowed)We descended a couple hundred feet in an elevator and just hoped it didn't stall. We came out into the cave, they had several exhibits and history about the place. There weren't too many Sea Lion's inside because it was the start of the summer and they like to be outside at this time of year. But there were a few
Most of the Sea Lions were basking in the sun on the rocks below cliff area.
I thought it was weird that little groups of the Sea Lions would just huddle around in the water and float. They would stay like that for a long time. Weird!
