A little bit of Heaven! for now

We went out to Hookipa beach park to watch some wind surfing on the waves, but I guess it must not have been windy enough, because not one soul was in the water, so we took some other pictures instead.Derek doesn't like to get his feet dirty! But I just love to get my feet in the sand!
Doesn't this picture make Derek look tall?We went to Lahaina and had dinner at a place Derek had heard about called Cheeseburger in Paradise or something like that. It was pretty good. After we ate we walked around Lahaina and checked out the stores and galleries. It was raining so we bought an umbrella and it hasn't rained since. Isn't that the way it always is.Another night we went out to eat at a place called Mama's Fish House. It was really good and really expensive, but well worth it..It really had a cool atmosphere, but thank goodness we weren't there on the night it was raining, because the place was mainly open to the elements with some like big umbrellas and an ellaborate system to catch the water and drain it away.I don't usually like fish, but they use fresh fish caught by local fisherman and make up their menu daily (they print a new menu every day) with the fresh fish that they are supplied with. Well, I tasted Derek's fish and it was really good (what? you thought I was going to spend a fortune on a meal I wasn't sure I would like?) I had a Pork chop with Shrimp and it was to die for. But they made everything look so pretty. Derek had Macadamia nut crusted Mahi Mahi and our dinners came on such pretty plates.
But the coolest thing was when we ordered our desert it was called "The Black Pearl" and sure enough it looked like a black pearl. It was a mousse under that black shell. We drove down to the very end of the road south of Kehei and saw this Old Lava flow that came down from the mountain.
Then the same day we drove all the way north up another canyon and saw this Iao Needle. It was a sacred area a long time ago.
So far we haven't been in the water yet but I probably won't post any pictures of that because, well, you don't want to see us in bathing suits and because of theft we just leave the cameras behind. We have had a good time so far and I have even seen some whales from the shore and I even spied a turtle poke his head up from the waves at the beach by our condo. Way cool! Anyway, Aloha for now

How fun! We're so happy that you were able to go with Dad. You both completely deserve the holiday. I'm freezing while writing this at school as I sit in a freezing hallway looking out at frozen Utah Lake and the frozen mountains framing it....IT's FREEZING HERE! Lucky you and your warmth and sunshine. :)

We really liked "Cheeseburger in paradise" when we were there too! :-) It's so fun to hear about your vacation having been to the same places.
